SUMMARY:Adult BMitzvah Cohort
DESCRIPTION:Maybe you never celebrated becoming a b’mitvah. Maybe you did—and want a chance to return with new questions and a deeper sense of who you are today. Our Adult BMitzvah Cohort is an opportunity to dive deeper into your Judaism by embracing an important ritual of Jewish adulthood (no matter your age!) Together\, we’ll explore what it means to be a Jew now\, build skills in Torah reading\, and develop our own interpretations of text. \nThe cohort unfolds over three modules: in April\, we explore what it means to become BMitzvah and our own Jewish journeys; in May we will learn trope; and in July we will write own drash (short sermons). We’ll culminate with two Saturday mornings in August\, where we’ll learn the flow of the service and celebrate together as you mark this moment publicly with the Mishkan community. Cohort participants must be Mishkan Builders and have learned the aleph bet prior to beginning the class (there are apps!) \nRegister

SUMMARY:Morning Minyan with Yiscah Smith: Planting Seeds of the Divine
DESCRIPTION:In this special Morning Minyan\, Rabbi Lizzi will be joined by Jerusalem-based thought leader\, spiritual activist and author Yiscah Smith for a discussion of her new book\, Planting Seeds of the Divine: Torah Commentaries. You can join us at our regular Morning Minyan link. \nBio:  \nYiscah Smith is a thought leader\, spiritual activist\, international speaker\, and author who addresses “Jewish Identity Redefined.” She envisions this next era in Jewish history “returning forward” to a God centered Judaism—emphasizing a fresh and vibrant Jewish identity — radically compassionate\, kind\, joyful\, confident\, unapologetic\, spiritual\, holistic and unifying — with pride\, dignity and joy\, an informed contemporary Jew familiar with the Jewish story\, honoring our past and creating a new path into our future. Yiscah teaches at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies\, Applied Jewish Spirituality (AJS) and the Institute for Jewish Spirituality (IJS). Yiscah travels the globe sharing her ideas that are both spiritual texts supported and creative as well. She graciously accepts invitations for scholar-in-residence and keynote speaker engagements. Her newest book\, Planting Seeds of the Divine: Torah Commentaries to Cultivate Your Spiritual Practice\, was recently published by the Jewish Publication Society (JPS) and the University of Nebraska Press (UNP).

SUMMARY:Roots and Rituals: Exploring Faith\, Food\, and Culture with Lawndale Christian Community Church
DESCRIPTION:Join Mishkan Chicago and Lawndale Christian Community Church for a new series bringing together adults in their 20s and 30s to share meals\, study sacred text\, and build relationships across lines of race\, class\, and faith. Over four gatherings hosted in each of our communities\, we’ll explore biblical texts about land\, place\, and belonging — surfacing both shared and divergent understandings of our shared scripture while engaging in honest conversation about racism\, antisemitism\, and white supremacy. Along the way\, we’ll tour Lawndale and Maxwell Street — two Chicago neighborhoods with rich Jewish and African American histories — and taste some of the best food our cultures have to offer. \nRegistration is closed; this program is full.
