SUMMARY:In Conversation With Rodger Kamenetz
DESCRIPTION:Following Morning Minyan\, Rabbi Lizzi will host a conversation with celebrated author Rodger Kamenetz. Next week\, we will be welcoming Rodger soon as our scholar-in-residence for our Shavuot suite of programming\, so this is an opportunity to meet him beforehand! \nBio: Rodger Kamenetz is an award winning Jewish poet and author. He founded and directed the Jewish Studies program at LSU  where he retired as Sternberg Honors Chair. He’s best known for the international best-seller The Jew in the Lotus which became a PBS documentary. The New York Times called it “a revered text” and Moment named it one of the top 25 Jewish non-fiction books of the past fifty years. The sequel Stalking Elijah won the National Jewish Book Award for Jewish Thought. The History of Last Night’s Dream was featured on Oprah Winfrey’s Soul Series and  he currently leads an international group of Natural Dreamwork practitioners who use dreams for spiritual growth. A widely anthologized poet\, his eight books of poetry include The Missing Jew: Poems 1976-2022. His most recent book Seeing into the Life of Things: Imagination and the Sacred Encounter offers daily Jewish practices for overcoming afflictive emotions such as extreme anxiety and reactive anger. He “inspires us to use our imagination and our dreams… to inhabit our world more fully and joyfully.” (Robert Moss).\n\nJoin this talk on our regular Morning Minyan Zoom link.

SUMMARY:Adult BMitzvah Cohort
DESCRIPTION:Maybe you never celebrated becoming a b’mitvah. Maybe you did—and want a chance to return with new questions and a deeper sense of who you are today. Our Adult BMitzvah Cohort is an opportunity to dive deeper into your Judaism by embracing an important ritual of Jewish adulthood (no matter your age!) Together\, we’ll explore what it means to be a Jew now\, build skills in Torah reading\, and develop our own interpretations of text. \nThe cohort unfolds over three modules: in April\, we explore what it means to become BMitzvah and our own Jewish journeys; in May we will learn trope; and in July we will write own drash (short sermons). We’ll culminate with two Saturday mornings in August\, where we’ll learn the flow of the service and celebrate together as you mark this moment publicly with the Mishkan community. Cohort participants must be Mishkan Builders and have learned the aleph bet prior to beginning the class (there are apps!) \nRegister \nAdult BMitzvah will meet on the following dates: \nApril 15\, 22\, 29 (6:30pm-8:30pm)May 6\, May 13\, May 20 (6:30pm-8:30pm)July 8\, 15\, 29 (6:30pm-8:30pm) August 8\, 15 (9:30am-11:30am)

SUMMARY:Friday Night Shabbat
DESCRIPTION:Join us for music from our Davening Team\, uplifting liturgy\, and reflection from our rabbis. This week’s Shabbat will feature a guest drash on sobriety and a sober kiddush. \nDuring the High Holidays this past year\, Rabbi Lizzi shared the life-changing impact of her experience as a bone marrow donor through Gift of Life. Inspired by her story\, we’re excited to bring this opportunity to the Mishkan community by hosting a donor drive tonight. Volunteers will be on site with swabbing stations to help participants complete their swab kits and learn whether they are eligible to become a donor—and potentially save a life. For more information about Gift of Life\, visit their website. \nPlease note that there will be a videographer on-site filming some of services for marketing purposes. \nWatch the livestream on Mishkan’s YouTube channel. \nThis program is sponsored by Maggie’s Place\, Mishkan’s holistic wellness center which provides support groups\, resources\, and pastoral counseling free of charge. \nLooking to help out? We’re in need of volunteer greeters to welcome people into Mishkan before services. You can sign up here or email Michael at michael@mishkanchicago.org for more information!

Cohort participants must be Mishkan Builders and have learned the aleph bet prior to beginning the class (there are apps!) \nRegister

SUMMARY:Your Prayer Life Can Be Better
DESCRIPTION:This class is the first in a series designed for young adults to dig into Jewish spirituality\, created by Hebrew Seminary\, co-sponsored by Silverstein Base Hillel of Lincoln Park\, Anshe Emet Synagogue and Mishkan Chicago. According to Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel\, prayer should be an adventure of the soul– but that’s not how the average Jew would describe their experience in synagogue. This class will help you access the deeper meanings and parts of yourself that make prayer inspiring and fulfilling\, and hopefully give you the tools and confidence to have that soul adventure the next time you walk into shul. \nLight refreshments will be provided. American Sign Language interpreter will be present. All are welcome to attend at no cost.  This program is supported by a JUF Young Adult Engagement Grant. \nRegister
