SUMMARY:Get to Know Your Neighbor Shabbat
DESCRIPTION:We’re off this week\, so we thought it was time for another edition of Get To Know Your Neighbor Shabbat! Generous Builders are opening up their homes and providing a main course for this potluck-style meal. Read on for more info from each host\, then click here to register! \nIrving Park: Hosted by Yonatan and Susan Shamgar\, this is a relaxing Shabbat dinner (starting at 6pm) with a candlelight and blessings followed by good food and good conversation! One dog and two cats. \nLincoln Park: Hosted by Linda Kellough\, this vegetarian Shabbat is open to adults of any age. Easy to get to by public transit! Welcome guests who’d like to sing or lead some prayers\, but please come even if that isn’t you! From Linda: “I’m 72 and love cross generational gatherings. I travel to strange places\, lead volunteer service trips out west\, spent a summer at Pardes— I bet you have interesting experiences to share too.” \nAndersonville: Hosted by Andi Friedman\, this family-oriented Shabbat (starting at around 5:30 for appetizers\, 6:15 for dinner) has lots of toys and chaos. Expect a basic Shabbat service but they’d love for you to bring your own traditions if you’d like! \nRiver North: Hosted by Dakota and Richard Derryberry\, this kid-friendly Shabbat (starting at around 5:30) will be cozy\, chaotic\, and communal! Their building is accessible and there are no stairs or pets. \nEvanston: Hosted by Fay Bomberg and Dan Kaplan\, this vegetarian Shabbat (starting at around 7:00) is casual and open to singing! \nHorner Park: Hosted by Aliza Becker\, this vegetarian musical Shabbat (starting at 6:30pm) is in her longtime home. Mishkan Builder and professional musician Patricia Tyson will lead us in singing on piano after the dinner\, so please bring lyrics/music (if you have them.) Join us in an evening of ritual\, music\, fun and conversation. You are welcome to bring musical instruments! \nNorth Center: Hosted by Jenny Schaffer\, this Shabbat dinner (starting at around 6:30) will be in collaboration with the Miskhan Local Action Team and will be a meaningful\, curated group conversation focused on public safety and justice. Wear what you feel comfortable in\, nothing fancy necessary! \nNote that there are some stairs into the homes of each dinner except River North. \nRegister \nDon’t see your neighborhood listed? SUMMARY:Get to Know Your Neighbor Shabbat
DESCRIPTION:We’re not doing a traditional service this week\, so we’ve enlisted eight Mishkan Builders to help us keep the Shabbat vibes going in their homes across town! This is a great chance to get to know some of the people in our community who may live just around the corner. All ages welcome for a potluck-style Shabbat dinner (the hosts are graciously preparing the main dish). \nRegister for a dinner \nSpots are filling fast! See below for remaining dinners with openings: \n\nOak Park: Hosted by Hila Ratzabi and Jose Villegas\, this meal is loosely kosher (mostly dairy/vegetarian). The home is full of creativity\, and there will be a few kids running around. No nuts\, and a few stairs!\nLong Grove: Hosted by Aaron and Lauren Weiner\, this meal is meat and dairy-free\, and can truly accommodate gluten free (they even have a separate oven!) Their home is situated on a nature preserve\, so there’s lots of wildlife (deer especially!) and a great view of the sunset over the prairie. Kid-friendly! Three stairs\, three friendly dogs (that can be leashed if needed)\, and way more than three spots to park!\nWest Rogers Park: Hosted by Michelle and Stacy Broxman\, the vibe is queer family chaos! They have a preschooler and a toddler\, and put sprinkles in the challah about 50% of the time. There’s about eight steps to the door and one mostly hypoallergenic dog.\nWest Rogers Park (New Dinner!): Hosted by Elena Grossman and Noa Padowitz who have a sports obsessed 1st grader and no pets. The Shabbat vibe is super relaxed and friendly. There are some steps up to the front door\, and they have guest parking permits for street parking.\n\nRegister for a dinner
