Social Justice at Mishkan
Tikkun– Healing, repairing what’s broken, is one of the core values at Mishkan. Channeling the energy we create in our services and leaning into social activism is important now more than ever. Here are some ways to get involved.
This year, Mishkan’s justice team is centered around supporting the work of four key partners in justice here in Chicago working to end social, racial and economic injustice:
- JCUA The Jewish Council on Urban Affairs – combating poverty, racism and anti-Semitism in partnership with diverse communities.
- ONE Northside Organizing Neighborhoods for Equality: Northside – is a mixed-income, multi-ethnic, intergenerational organization that unites diverse communities, building collective power to eliminate injustice through bold and innovative community organizing.
- HIAS Chicago Refugee Welcome Team – HIAS stands for a world in which refugees find welcome, safety, and freedom and rescues people whose lives are in danger for being who they are.
- LPCS Lincoln Park Community Shelter – a comprehensive social service agency serving adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness
Mishkan Welcomes Muslim Refugees to Chicago
This year, Mishkan Chicago partnered with HIAS to help resettle two refugee families from Syria and Iraq. This is the story of Mishkan’s second refugee family, the Al-Obaidis, as seen on WTTW’s Chicago Tonight!
