In This Place Together: A Palestinian’s Journey to Collective Liberation – A Virtual Book and Discussion Group with Rabbi Lizzi

03/07/2022 @ 7:15 pm - 9:15 pm CST

On the heels of our last Israel-Palestine book group (Can We Talk About Israel by Daniel Sokatch), we are diving into the biography of Sulaiman Khatib, who is a co-founder of the non-violent Israeli-and Palestinian-led organization Combatants for Peace. His biography, In This Place Together: A Palestinian’s Journey To Collective Liberation, co-written by him and Penina Eilberg Schwartz, tells the story of Khatib’s evolution from a frustrated teen who turned to violence and was imprisoned in an Israeli jail for a decade, into a leading voice in the non-violent movement toward peaceful coexistence, mutual recognition and Palestinian statehood. This book group, led by Rabbi Lizzi, is for placing oneself in a learning and listening posture and to help a Jewish audience grow more familiar with a leading voice in the movement for not just Palestinian, but collective Israeli and Palestinian, liberation. It’s a rare opportunity to get to be in dialogue about a Palestinian’s story, in a Jewish community, and discuss the implications for us and our community. It should be deep, challenging, and meaningful. The group will meet virtually four times and costs $36 (half off for Builders).
