One of our most important mourning rituals happens immediately after death, when a group of individuals called a chevra kadisha (sacred society) prepares the body for burial in a process called taharah. You can learn more about some of these practices here. Read Rabbi Steven’s reflection about this beautiful and incredibly humbling experience, a celebration of the human body and what it means to be living, embodied beings. The Progressive Chevra Kadisha in Chicago makes taharah accessible for people of all backgrounds, affiliations, and gender identities. Join fellow Mishkanite Liz Feldman for an informational training on joining their chevra kadisha and performing taharah at Chicago Jewish Funerals.
RSVP is required to Liz at [email protected] with your name and cell phone. Can’t make this training? Please let Liz know if you’d be interested in an alternative date on Wednesday, June 28.
