For this holiday remembering the destruction of Jewish life (specifically the fall of the temples in Jerusalem), we commemorate by fasting (if it is your practice), reading Lamentations, and reflecting on how the themes of loss, displacement and disorientation have shown up for us this year. For those attending in-person, we will begin with learning and Havdalah, followed by chanting from the Book of Lamentations. Then, you’ll have the chance to listen and reflect in community or to call-in and walk the beach for a more meditative experience. For those joining virtually, you will zoom in at 9 pm for an audio-only experience of the chanting of the Book of Lamentations. Then get up, dust yourself off, and start the journey toward rebirth at the High Holidays.
