Advocating for a Neurodivergent Child in Summer Activities

May 20 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm CDT

Are you a caregiver for a neurodivergent youth (under 18)? Join us at this clinician-led workshop to learn how to advocate for your child during summer programming. Connect with other caregivers while learning some new strategies for navigating summer programming for your child. This program is sponsored by Maggie’s Place and will be led by Sara Hood and Jess Levine. Sara Hood (she/her) received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University. She currently works as a child and family therapist at the Virginia Frank Child Development Center in West Rogers Park. She has experience working with neurodiverse children and their families, with a special focus on Autism and ADHD. In addition to her work at Virginia Frank, Sara has spent the last three years working specifically with children diagnosed with Autism in an outpatient behavioral health setting. She is looking forward to collaborating with the families that Mishkan serves. Jess Levine (she/her) is a therapist & facilitator who works with clients from early childhood into adulthood, and is dedicated to creating radically accessible and welcoming spaces. She makes use of a gentle, grounding approach in her work to create a structured environment where her clients can explore difficult feelings and experiences without being overwhelmed by them. Jess makes use of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and evidence-guided approaches including a mix of psychodynamic, attachment, and mind-body connection modalities. Jess is especially passionate about working with LGBTQ+ folks and people who identify as neurodivergent.
